AirSENCE - Real Time Ambient Micro Air Quality Monitoring Systems

AirSENCE Participating in an 18 European Partners Led Project to Develop an Advanced and Innovative Photonic System for Outdoor Air Pollution Monitoring.

We are delighted to announce AirSENCE’s participation in the EU funded project, PASSEPARTOUT (“Photonic Accurate and Portable Sensor Systems Exploiting Photo-Acoustic and Photo-Thermal Based Spectroscopy for Real-Time Outdoor Air Pollution Monitoring.”). Twenty (20) AirSENCE devices will be supplied to the European partners and installed in cities of multiple European countries to collect high spatial resolution air quality data and establish air quality baseline, and in the meantime, deep learning algorithms will also be applied to provide air quality pattern analysis and modelling.

This is a 3+ years project supported under the European Commissioner Open Call for Tender: Advancing photonics technologies and application driven photonics components and the innovation ecosystem. The PASSEPARTOUT consortium consists of a multidisciplinary group of partners in Europe, each with their own unique skillsets and expertise that are complementary to one another. To name a few, consortium members include Cork Institute of Technology (Ireland), AUG-H Signals Hellas (Greece), Green Lab Hungary Engineering Ltd. (Hungary), Politecnico di Bari (Italy), Vario-Optics AG (Switzerland), and the Technical University of Munich (Germany). The project consortium represent a total of 18 innovative partners from 10 different European countries.

The objective of this project is to advance the development and deployment of miniature, hyperspectral optical based sensors based on Quartz Enhanced Photo-acoustic Spectroscopy and Photo-Thermal Interferometry for a wide range of ambient pollutants. Through PASSEPARTOUT, newly developed sensors will be combined with AirSENCE – an advanced, accurate, and affordable continuous Ambient Air Quality Micro-Monitoring Station (caaqMMS), to form a comprehensive air quality monitoring sensor network. AirSENCE will provide continuous real-time data on O3, NOx, SO2, CO2, CO, fine particles, coarse particles, weather data, ambient noise and light, as well as integrated metrics such as Air Quality Index (AQI).
